This mainly concrete home includes a 1000+ square-foot green roof with an American Hydrotech roof membrane (made for concrete roof decks) and drainage layers. The owners chose a hands-on, non-proprietary direction for the balance of the green roof: a local supplier mixed the soil and local landscape designers suggested a diverse palette of mostly native plants including grasses, cacti, wildflowers, and even agave. The roof is accessible and includes patio seating and views of the hill country. This is an inspiring example of Austin homeowners forging new ground as green roof pioneers.
